Jewish Students Turn to Miami Beach for Self-Discovery

Winter breaks aren’t necessarily known for personal discoveries. But in the midst of snorkeling and lounging poolside this year, University of Miami junior Avi Insler did something he had never done before: He kept Shabbat.

“It was a gratifying experience,” he said during some down time in a packed schedule of classes and activities as part of the first-ever Miami Torah Experience. “I was able to observe Shabbat without carrying or using electronic devices!”

Miami Yeshiva Gives College Grads Taste of Something New

Ezra Rosen, 23, went to Miami last winter to study at a brand-new yeshiva for 10 days. With his boss’ and parents’ blessing, he left New Jersey at the end of December with a round trip ticket.

He’s still there.

Students Experience Miami Yeshiva

Over 20 Jewish university students from across North America spent part of winter break hitting the books this winter at Miami Torah Experience, a 10-day immersive program under the auspicies of Chabad-Lubavitch of Florida in cooperation with the Chabad on Campus International Foundation.
